The influence of gas on the properties of finished steel is related to its form of existence. Oxygen and nitrogen mainly exist in the form of various oxides and nitrides in steel, so their influence on the performance of forgings is mainly determined by the shape, size and distribution of these compounds, namely non{{0}}metallic inclusions. Hydrogen is the most harmful gas in steel. The hydrogen remaining in the solid steel is the main cause of white spots, and it also causes the steel to produce "hydrogen embrittlement". The limit content of hydrogen that produces "hydrogen embrittlement" is about 0.5PPM, which is much smaller than the limit content of hydrogen that produces white spots of 23PPM. Therefore, although the hydrogen content is reduced by vacuum treatment and other methods, and the white spots are eliminated, the problem of hydrogen embrittlement has not been solved, and hydrogen embrittlement is also an important problem for large forgings.
